In Waiting for Godot by Samuel Beckett and The Love Song by J. Afred Prufrock by T.S. Eliot the main characters choose not to achieve their goals. Instead, they waste their time. They wouldn't know what to do if they reached their goals as they are too scared to think positively or take constructive action. Estragon and Vladimir are waiting for Godot and Prufrock is waiting for an opportunity to talk to a girl, both reachable goals.
