The two last Liberal Prime Ministers, Lloyd George and Asquith, played vital but very different roles in the 1908-16 Liberal governments. It is widely believed that their relationship was more symbiotic than destructive. In this essay I will look at the similarities and differences between Asquith and Lloyd George. I will then decide which of these was most beneficial and which was most detrimental to the Liberal party. Lloyd George and Asquith had a lot of similarities. Both Lloyd George and Asquith were leaders of the Liberal government (Lloyd George 1916-22, Asquith 1908-16). In the period of 1906-14 Lloyd George and Asquith had similar views on social reforms and together they made some of the most revolutionary changes in modern British history.
