... WHAT WERE THE SIMILARITIES AND DIFFERENCES BETWEEN ASQUITH AND LLOYD GEORGE IN GOVERNMENT? The two last Liberal Prime Ministers, Lloyd George and Asquith, played vital but very different roles in the 1908-16 Liberal governments. It is widely believed that their relationship was more symbiotic than destructive. In this essay I will look at the similarities and differences between Asquith and Lloyd George. I will then decide which of these was most beneficial and which was most detrimental to the Liberal party. Lloyd George and Asquith had a lot of similarities. Both Lloyd George and Asquith were leaders of the Liberal government (Lloyd George 1916-22, Asquith 1908-16). In the period of 1906-14 Lloyd George and Asquith had similar views on social reforms and together they made some of the most revolutionary changes in modern British history. These changes included the People's Budget of 1909. This was at the time when Asquith was the
