Explore the Dramatic function and presentation of the fool in "King Lear." The presentation of the fool in the play is a typical court jester hired to amuse the King and his noblemen so in the play, the fool uses a very informal vocabulary and manner of speaking when addressing King Lear. He consistently uses the nickname of 'nuncle' when he speaks to Lear and Lear just replies by answering him with amusement. This shows a fusion of trust and friendship between the Fool and Lear. Throughout the play, this friendship becomes very intense because when Lear becomes deranged and ill, the Fool is with him in Acts 1 through to 3, this shows commitment of friendship because some of the other characters were just taking advantage of Lear when he was mad, e.g. Goneril, Regan.
