Explain how Marvell presents the theme of religion in any two or three of his poems. Metaphysical poetry examines the timeless experiences of man; interweaving highly elaborate imagery with subtle argument and wit. In several of his poems Marvell explores the more profound of human experiences - man's relationship with God. On a Drop of Dew is an emblem for the resolved soul, whilst A Dialogue Between the Resolved Soul and Created Pleasure presents the internal conflict between purity of the soul and earthly temptations. In both of these poems Marvell uses highly spun metaphors and images, whilst conversely also leaving the central moral of the poem explicit. In On a Drop of Dew Marvell extends the traditional form of an emblem poem and unites visual elements with religion. Written in the style of Donne, the poem is a conceit for the human soul; exhaled from the heavens '... so long divided...
