The Home Front Research Assignment Evacuation Evacuation was the activity British people had used to protect small children from any attacks from the Germans. Fathers had to leave their children with their mothers or teachers ("minders") to ensure the safety of their child. They were sent to places, which were unlikely to be bombed by Nazis. Gas Masks Gas masks were issued to all British civilians at the start of World War Two. There was a very real fear in Britain that the Nazi party, German bombers would drop poison gas bombs like chemicals such as chlorine. Therefore, all civilians were issued with gas masks. Air Raid Precautions * Barrage Balloons To prevent the new Luftwaffe (German plane) from raiding and bombing in pinpoint accuracy, the Air Raid Precautions (ARP) put up huge barrage balloons.
