Have a little read: ... WAS THE PUBLIC MISLEAD ABOUT THE CONDITIONS IN THE TRENCHES? The sources I think were published before 1916 are souces A and B. This is because they are both recruitement posters , to persuade men to go and sign up.After 1916 conscription was introduced , so there was no need to have these posters because they couldnt volunteer. Source C is made for after 1917 because it says in the provenance that it was a poster by the USA Government, the USA joined the war in 1917 so it would have been after 1917. All of these posters are forms of recruitement. They used guilt like in Source B to make the fathers feel guilty about not signing up.Sources A and B are similar because they use the family, and have a subtle way of making people go to sign up. The purpose of Source A, is for women to persuade their men to go, because the Government knew women was a key thing in a mans life, so they used it to their advantage. Source C is different to Sources A and B because it shows the bruitality of the German soldiers by using a big gorilla with a woman in its arms. From my own knowledge of the first world war , I know that recruitement posters were very successful. But from the photo in Source D ,I cant tell whether this amount of new recruits was happening all over the country, because the provenance only mentions London. The source lacks information to make a realistic statement because it doesnt say whether it is before or after 1916 which was when conscription was introduced. If its after 1916,this would be new recruits that were conscripted to go. Also, it is only one photograph and I am unable to make a general statement about it without other information. Using my own knowledge of the first world war, the British Government issued these postcards to the soldiers in the trenches because they wanted to censor every thing that didnt look or sound nice. They didnt want the people at home to think they made the wrong decision their family to go and sign up.Also to keep the morale up at home. The government wanted to make a fake image of life in the trenches by hiding the bad by using censorship. The postcard in Source E shows what the government issued to the soldiers to send home.'If any thing
