War poetry is among the most striking, touching and moving of all poetry. I have tried to choose my poems carefully to show both the glory and the horror of war along with its consequences, both direct and indirect. The war poem, which I am first going to explore, is 'The Charge of the Light Brigade' by Alfred Tennyson. The poem is based around the Crimean war 1854-6. It focuses on the disastrous charge of the light brigade. This charge is the best-known example of the heroism and stupidity of war.
