Laura Capewell Poetry coursework Task; write about the poems you have studied, commenting on content, style and structure and show how the writer feels about war and the effects it has on people. I have looked at five poems all of which have a common theme of war. The five poems that I have studied are Alfred Tennysons' 'The charge of the light brigade' which was written during the Crimean war from 1854-1856, where Britain and France joined forces to fight against the Russians. The poem describes the charge in and out by the light brigade. Secondly I looked at 'come up from the fields father' by Walt Whitman. The poem is about The American Civil War 1861-1865 and through his poem Walt Whitman tries to show how war can affect families. The next poem I studied was 'Drummer Hodge' written by Thomas Hardy during the Boar War. Hardy was inspired to write this poem after...
