Relationships With One's Father The novel Night and the novel Sophie's World are experienced from the point of view of teenagers who seek a closer friendship with their fathers. Both novels take place during world war two-- a war which greatly impacted the lives of Sophie's and Eliezer's family. There is a transformation of both Eliezer and Sophie in relation to their respective fathers which is one of the pivotal points of each novel. Thus, the novels are similar in the depiction of a father's filial relationship during world war too. However, Eliezer's experiences were much more harsh as opposed to Sophie's because he was a victim of the Holocaust. Sophie's transformation is one of self awareness. Through communications with her father through mail, her horizons are opened by the philosophical education she receives. Her father''s absence has quite an effect on her as well. The readers understand that Sophie's sorrow...
