In this essay my aim is to demonstrate understanding of social and cultural constraints and how these affect the poetry that is written ; to show understanding of the poet's attitude in each poem ; to analyse and explore language used and how it has been used to create tone / image / effect ( To support attitude to subject matter ) Attitudes to war have changed greatly in the last 150 years. For example, in 1854-56, a famous war called the Crimean war took place. Originally, the war was between Russian Orthodox monks and French Catholics about who had the rights for two holy places, Jerusalem and Nazareth. But later, The British were involved in the war as allies of the French.
