Dulce Et Decorum Est A poem that I have read recently, and I feel will stay with me for a long time is the collaborative poem by Sigfried Sassoon and Wilfred Owen. The poem was first published in 1921, after the conclusion of the first world war, and it has been described as a savage version of the events which incurred in this, the first of two great tragedies. The poem was written while Wilfred Owen was on leave from the front line, and seems to reflect the guilt he was feeling at the time. The story describes the mishaps of a group of soldiers, retiring from the front line to seek an interval of respite, amidst the scrapings of life at the front line. On their way to the nearby second line, where troops sought rest, a gas attack is announced, and the troops scramble to get their gas...
