Florence Nightingale's parents did not want her to become a nurse because they wanted her to follow the path of most upper class girls. They wanted to her to go to parties and meet a wealthy man. Her parents thought that nurses were rough women with little or no training at all. They thought that the idea of becoming a nurse was not good enough for Florence and wanted her to be like other upper class girls. The idea of becoming a nurse, especially when you are upper class was probably frowned upon at that time so Florence's parents did not want this.
