Do you agree that Mary Seacole & Florence Nightingale should be recognised as of equal importance to the History of Medicine? "Now is the time to honour Mary Seacole. There should be a statue of her alongside Florence Nightingale at the official Crimean War Memorial in London. I don't see it as a question of political correctness : it's a question of recognising someone for who they are and what they achieved." - Alex Attewell, director of the Florence Nightingale Museum, London. Throughout the Crimean War there were two particularly influential characters which, not only improved the health care at the time, however changed medical practice during the period all together. Mary Seacole and Florence Nightingale, were two very strong minded, dedicated individuals who, despite having overcome many separate and independent problems, proved that many changes were necessary in the practice of medicine through the course of 1854 - 1856 in particular....
