Compare and Contrast the two poems Ballad and La Belle Dame Sans Merci. A ballad is a poem or song that tells a story, characterized by short, regular verses with a rhyming scheme. In the first ballad, named Ballad, A typical story is told. An innocent 'maid' is abandoned by a 'faithless shepherd'. She speaks of his promises and her fate. She falls in love with him and carries his child, in return he abandons her. La Belle Dame Sans Merci tells a similar story of a beautiful woman who leaves her knight 'on the cold hills side' La Belle Dame Sans Merci is written in chronological order.
