Discuss Faulkner's use of style in each character's section of the novel The Sound and the Fury. Faulkner's distinct writing style proves to do more than keep the reader interested. He provides a particular structure for his novel The Sound and the Fury by describing each character through their own thoughts and actions; and concluding with his final opinions in a third person narrative. His experimental approach to writing is very unique and successfully emphasizes Benjy's, Quentin's, and Jason's stream of consciousness. Each of these characters have specific images that trigger various memories which in turn give a tremendous amount of insight into the mind of each character. With this technique Faulkner is able to make each character, even the Compson daughter Caddy, come alive. Beginning with the Benjy section, most would agree was quite confusing.
