Poetry Comparison Marianna and With or without you Marianna and With or Without you are the two poems that I am going to compare in this essay. Marianna was written by a well-known poet, Alfred Lord Tennyson and With or Without you was made great by the rock band U2. In this essay, I am going to look at the imagery, symbolism, perspective and the theme of the two poems. I am then going to look at the similarities and the differences of the two poems and eventually compare all of these factors. Alfred Lord Tennyson wrote Marianna in 1830. The poem is about a woman who is waiting for somebody to return to her. The poem shows how Marianna has let her manor house fall into a state of decay and disrepair, this reflects the way she has let herself become. With or Without you was released as a single in 1987....
