Willow Mentos AS English Literature A review of High Windows claimed that "Larkin is a poet who hates modern life" how far do you agree with this view. In your answer you may refer to either 2 or 3 poems or the collection as a whole. To some extent I can see that some people would say that Larkin hates modern life however I personally I believe he focuses on life as a whole rather than individual parts and in many of his poems he celebrates life and in particular the youth and their society today. This is explored in the poem 'High Windows.' In this poem Larkin explores the theme of tradition which appears in many of his poems. In this poem Larkin is suspicious of change but that is not to say that he hates modern life. In fact he envies the sexual freedom that the young of today's society...
