Poetry Coursework "Woman Work" and "A Woman's Work" In this piece of coursework I am going to compare two poems written by female poets. The first poem "Woman Work" was written by an African American called Maya Angelou. The poem was written in the 1970's. The poem is told through the eyes of a black slave woman. The second poem was written by Dorothy Nimmo, in the 1990's. She is an English poet who was born in Manchester, and died of motor neurone disease in 2001. The poem although personal has a universal theme concerning women and their relationships with their husbands. It is a disheartening poem as it is about the break up of a marriage from a woman's point of view but it ends with optimism. The hurt of the protagonist is felt throughout the poem until the last stanza. Although both poems are written by two female poets coming...
