THE TEMPEST Act 1 scene 1 of the tempest is an excellent opening to a play as the storm has many literary interpretations on which it can be read, as with many plays composed by Shakespeare it starts off not in the control of men but in the control of some other forces. In Macbeth the play is started with the three witches and there is also an urge for power amongst certain characters which is made apparent during the first act of each play. Another importance of this play is that it had left a legacy that went unnoticed until the twentieth century when writers began to look at this novel to call for democracy and equality amongst all, even though the roots of the novel were deeply embedded on the theme of Romanticism.
