Romeo and Juliet is a love story. Why does Shakespeare use so much violence? William Shakespeare is one of the most influential writers, in all of English literature. He was born in 1564 to a successful middle-class glove maker in Stratford-upon-Avon, England. Shakespeare attended grammar school, but his formal education proceeded no further. In 1582 he married an older woman, Anne Heathway and had three children with her. He moved to London from Stratford-upon-Avon to become a successful actor and playwright. Many theatres were built but the most well known of these of was, The Globe, which was owned by William Shakespeare. He later purchased New Place a considerable property in his home town of Stratford. He died in 1616 at the age of fifty-two on his birthday.
