Romeo and Juliet. How would you stage a performance of Romeo and Juliet to ensure its relevance to a modern audience? William Shakespeare is the most recognisable face of English literature around the world; his era was around the late sixteenth century and the early seventeenth century, this was when Queen Elizabeth I was the head of state. During the time of her throne many marks were made in history, one of the marks was made by William Shakespeare and his passion to write. He wrote thirteen comedies, thirteen historical plays, six tragedies, four tragicomedies, and one hundred and fifty-four sonnets as well as three long poems. His plays are shown in theatres nationwide, they were hugely appreciated by the audiences, due to the efforts and passion put in to their production.
