Explore The Way In Which Shakespeare Uses The Language Of Love And Hate in "Romeo And Juliet" To Create Emotional And Tension For The Audience Introduction Romeo and Juliet is a Shakespearian tragedy play set in Verona, Italy. It was written in the late sixteenth century, and was set around the same time. Romeo and Juliet is one of Shakespeare's most famous plays. The story and plot to the play were based on a poem by Arthur Brooke in 1562 entitled The Tragicall Historye of Romeus and Juliet. He changed the name to make the British public think that they can relate to it as the characters had more local sounding names and the name of the play is shorter and easier to say.
