COMPARE AND CONTRAST THE DIFFERENT WAYS IN WHICH BAZ LUHRMANN AND WILLIAM SHAKESPEARE ESTABLISH 'ROMEO AND JULIET' AS A TRAGEDY 'Romeo and Juliet' is one of William Shakespeare's most popular plays. It is a very well known tragedy. 'Romeo and Juliet' is found appealing by a young generation of people, as Romeo and Juliet were young and fashionable themselves. Baz Luhrmann re-created 'Romeo and Juliet' with a modern twist. He has done this very successfully. Baz Luhrmann used a lot of connotative messages in his film, and this helped us see how different the Capulet's were from the Montague's. The Capulet's dressed in suits and looked very smart. The Montague's were more colourful and more casual. Parts of the opening scene on the video are very fast moving and a lot of crash zooms are used. This makes you think that something disastrous is going to happen. The opera music in the background...
