In Baz Luhrmanns's "Romeo and Juliet", how does he create an appropriate atmosphere and ensure the plot is accessible to a modern audience? "Romeo & Juliet", was written in 1599 by William Shakespeare. This was one of his most famous plays, and has been performed thousands of times. It is an Elizabethan tragedy based around 2 lovers, "Romeo & Juliet". I am analysing the first two minutes of a modern remake, directed by "Baz Luhrmann" in 1997. This modern film has been made accessible to a modern audience and this is what I will be writing about. The film begins with an extreme long shot of a television, and the noise of a video playing. A new style reporter appears on the screen and begins to read the chorus. Instantly, the viewer becomes familiar with the news reader, making it accessible to a modern audience.
