Act I, Scene 1 Iago is deadly jealous because Othello promotes the Florentine Michael Cassio to the position of Othello's personal lieutenant. He and Roderigo, a former suitor of Desdemona, tell Desdemona's father Brabantio of the marriage of her daughter with he moor Othello what makes Brabantio think that Othello uses spells and charms to win Desdemona's favour. Act I, Scene 2 Brabantio and Roderigo arrive at Othello's lodgings where Iago speaks to Othello of Roderigo's harsh words attacking Othello's honor. At the same moment as Brabantio threatens Othello and accuses him of enchanting his daughter with charms and drugs, the Duke of Venice and senators want to meet with Othello regarding news of a Turkish attack on Cyprus. Act I, Scene 3 After Desdemona and Othello persuade Brabantio that their love is not a result of witchcraft and potion, the Duke of Venice tells Othello that he has to go to Cyprus...
