English Essay on 'Much Ado About Nothing' "How does Shakespeare's portray the central female characters in Act One of Much Ado About Nothing". In, Shakespeare's comedy 'Much Ado About Nothing' the opening Act is the firm foundation that presents the central female characters amongst others. Like most of Shakespeare's comedies he uses the two cousins, Beatrice and Hero, as contrasts to challenge the Stereotypical ideologies of Women in Elizabethan society; the Shrew and the ideal, goddess-like women. In the Elizabethan times, the Church formed the basis of most of the people's opinions on almost everything. In 'Much Ado About Nothing' the character Beatrice is portrayed as the 'Eve' like woman of the play. In the Bible Eve is tempted by Satan and causes the whole of mankind to fall. In the Elizabethan times the people were fundamentalists of the word and furthermore, took it as law and consequently blamed women for everything....
