Macbeth The witches are an important supernatural element in the play. Explain how you would stage Act1 scenes 1 and 3, and how the part of Macbeth should be played to show his reaction to the witches? In the 21st century, we now believe that witches and witchcraft are only a myth. This is the reason why the job of the director is a lot harder than back in the Elizabethan times. Nowadays, a director has to express the evilness of the witches with great emphasis due to us not believing in witchcraft. The job of the director is to choose the look of each character, choose the costumes for each character, decide on special effects and choose the scene setting. If I were the director and had to stage scene 1, I would set it deep in the woods where there would be a few little wooden huts where the witches would sleep...
