THE TRAGIC HERO Macbeth is a perfect example of a tragic hero, he is King Duncan's cousin and of noble birth. He showed potential for greatness in his battle against the Norwegians, the audience and other characters admire him for this. Macbeth also had a tragic flaw, his 'vaulting ambition'. This made him vulnerable to the manipulation of lady Macbeth and the witch's prophecies. His weakness spoils the good in him, leading him to his ultimate downfall. Another thing that makes him a tragic hero is his inner conflicts, as we see in his soliloquies. Personally I sympathise with the 'old' Macbeth that we saw at the beginning of the play. The once brave, loyal and admired man who eventually fell to his greatest flaw, his ambition. I feel Macbeth's own ambition was not strong enough to carry his the motive to kill the king, but once corrupted by his own wife's...
