In what ways is Macbeth a tragic hero? Do you feel genuinely sorry for him? Macbeth is a tragic hero and we know this because at the beginning of the story he was portrayed as a hero and then towards the end and middle of the story he was shown to be very ambitious and maybe even selfish. The main features of a Shakespearean tragedy are: That the main character, which is Macbeth in this story relates to the tragedy. The character always has a high position in the story such as a King or Thane. They would also have many good qualities, but they would also have one fatal flaw, which would be the characters weakness and this fatal flaw would be played alongside the circumstances.
