How does this scene contribute to the way in which the relationship between Antony and Caesar is presented in the play? Antony and Caesar are two men engaged in an immense struggle for power and control that overrides all other factors in their lives and eventually leads to the death of many, including Antony and Cleopatra. Although, as members of the triumvirate, they are quasi-equal in theory, both are battling to supercede the other in a war that is physical as well as emotional. In Act 3 Scene 4 of Antony and Cleopatra, there is yet only an emotional war between them, and mentions of an impending physical war in which Octavia, the sister of Caesar and wife of Antony, attempts to mediate. We have, in previous scenes, already come to knowledge of this struggle for power that keeps both leaders on edge. This clash between them, which Maecenas describes...
