An Exploration of Shakespeare's Presentation of Antony and Cleopatra's Deaths In the play Antony and Cleopatra, Shakespeare presents the deaths of the two central characters in a dramatic and moving way. Antony's death initially appears tragic because it gives the audience an impression that he is a feeble and withered man. As Antony stays alive longer and longer, Shakespeare portrays him in a more positive way and allows him to regain his respect and his position of influence among his men in his final moments alive. Cleopatra's death is also presented in a moving and heartbreaking way as her death comes from her misery and depression at the loss of Antony, which creates sympathy for her. She is also able to retain her pride by dying gracefully by using the venom of an asp as opposed to dying shamefully. Shakespeare links the two deaths by using parallel dramatic techniques.
