The play was inspired by Miller's opinion, to believe in yourself and this play portrays his views on what everyday- Americans believed in, 'the American Dream'. Death of a Salesman by Arthur Miller depicts the feelings and illusions felt by a family man who tried to live up to 'the American Dream'. 'The American Dream' was to work hard and you would succeed; also, the way other Americans saw you was highly important.
