Discuss The Devices Arthur Miller Uses In Act 1 of "The Crucible" to prepare the audience for the dramatic events to come. Comment on Effective use of language, structure and character interaction. If we don't learn from the mistakes people made in the past, we are bound to repeat them. The play The Crucible and the time in which it was written illustrate this statement exceedingly well. The Crucible is based upon the true-life story of residents of Salem trying to rid their village of witchcraft and contact with the devil. People were hung for contacting and working for the devil. If you couldn't be proven innocent or under the influence of anybody else or you couldn't blame anybody else, you got hung.
