Standard English/Non-Standard English

"Standard English is better than Non-Standard English" The objective of this essay is to take the above statement, review it from different aspects, assess the outcome of that review and present a conclusion. It is essential that a common understanding is agreed at the outset therefore a definition of Standard English would make a sound starting point. Standard English is a term generally applied to a form of the English language that is thought to be normal for educated native speakers. It includes grammar, vocabulary, spelling and pronunciation. Non-Standard English is a heavy use of less formal language, alternative pronunciation and regional variances of vocabulary. For instance, a Glaswegian would speak using a considerable input of non-Standard English. Standard English is sometimes referred to as BBC English or the Queen's English because of the proper and correct way in which it is spoken.
