How does language affect our impressions of other people? Since the dawn of mankind, humans have communicated in the most complex form, known as language. This is not inherited like most animals, but needs to be learned through the sophisticated structures in society. There are about 1000's languages in the world, which all have their own set rules and boundaries, both in speaking and writing. Language is a key factor in society. The way we speak and how we speak can give general impressions about ourselves to others. Culture, class, gender, region, religion and individual personality all effect what type of language we speak. If you were to be talking to a complete stranger over the phone, your brain would start to build a general impression of them, this is known as perception.
