Brad had chosen his base camp carefully. He was always careful. Being careful had kept him alive during his nine years in the SAS, and now that he was operating alone nothing was going to change. The jungle floor was wet and muddy and covered with decaying leaf litter. Strong shafts of sunlight, as bright and as concentrated as spotlights, blazed through the tree canopy above, illuminating the almost airless clearing. The morning rains had stopped an hour earlier, but moisture constantly dripped down from the soaking canopy. The humidity was intense, and every insect that walked crawled or flew seemed determined to take a bite out of Brad. Brad knew how important it was to be fully prepared in every way when fighting in a jungle environment, so before making camp he had made certain that he had two escape routes available in the event of a surprise attack....
