With reference to "Gold Cadillac" show how symbols of status and wealth can be damaging rather then enriching in human experience. The Gold Cadillac is set in America, during the 1950's. It is set in America, a place in which segregation often took place, particularly in the south. It was not a forced law there, however many people were still biased and racist. The story's written from a teenage girls point of perspective. Her name is Wilba and she is a black child. This is very affective in this story as the reader can really be involved with the character and relate to the events that take place and the situation better. We can tell the girl is very secure in her own neighbourhood as the girl openly talks to her neighbours as they are frequently about and part of the story. It comes across as a very tight knit community...
