What is an English Language A Level?
This course teaches students about language structure and the role and function of the English language. It equips students with the intellectual ability to use the linguistic framework most applicable in various spoken and written contexts.
Why Study English Language at A Level?
AS or A Level English Language should enable the student to enjoy using the full range of the ancient and complex English language. It should enhance the understanding of the proper use of English in its written and verbal form.
What Will I Study in an English Language A Level?
You will complete assignments and essays on topics such as speech sounds and phonetics, and the origins and use of words. There will also be coursework on the construction and interpretation of meanings in sentences and clauses.
Further Study After A Level
Studying English Language at A Level is the ideal preparation for taking a university Degree in English Language, English Literature, Linguistics or Classics.
