Unemployment in the isle of Man As has been the case bar two of the last 17 years, there was an increase in the number of persons registered unemployed in January. At the end of January unemployment stood at 622, 1.5% of the economically active population, and an increase of 31 over the month. During the month 176 claimants signed on the unemployment register and 145 signed off. Of the total, 448 are males and 174 are females. These figures include 50 persons who require work permits and 36 who were signing on for National Insurance credits only. A total of 436 job vacancies were notified to the Job Centre during the month and at the end of the month 237 jobs were held on file..
