Interview with Nazreen Deller, who plays a soldier at war In "Saving Private Ryan" Interviewer: In the first scene of the feature you are fighting a battle on D day, what was it like filming this scene? Nazreen: at first it was difficult to get into character because I have no experience with weapons, to make the experience more real, Steven Spielberg, the director sent us to weaponry classes. We had extensive training learning how to handle the weapons that were used. It was definitely a scary feeling knowing that I was holding something that could take a life. Obviously the guns had no bullets but the weight of them and the sounds that they made when fired with blanks gave me a real sense of the terror that soldiers had to deal with in war.
