Theatre Practices Assignment Caroline Ranson Written Analysis 2: Evaluative Essay For our performance we had to produce a piece based on our interpretation of the fairytale 'Rapunzel' by the Brothers Grimm. In order to help us to do this we researched other interpretations of the story including a version by feminist writer Anne Sexton that we came across while researching for our group seminar. Sexton explored the issue of lesbianism within Rapunzel between Mother Gothel and Rapunzel: 'a woman who loves a woman is forever young... hold me my young dear, hold me'. We decided that we would take the issue of lesbianism as a idea that we could explore further in our final performance piece. We also looked at the key line in Rapunzel: 'Rapunzel Rapunzel let down thy hair' and found that a modern interpretation of it is: 'Let your hair down' or 'Let go of your inhibitions' and we also...
