What are the challenges for the actress playing Grusha in part 1 of the play? Part 1 of the plays concentrates on Grusha and what happens to her during the coup. Grusha is a young, simple peasant woman and it must come across in her acting that she is used to doing hard work and, although she is 'the main character,' she is not of high status. E.g. when Grusha tries to pass herself off as a lady of higher status, she cannot hide the fact that she is used to making beds and the rich ladies realise that Grusha is a servant just by looking at her hands. The class divide at the time 'Caucasian Chalk Circle' is set was much larger than it is now and it may be hard for the actor, playing Grusha, to comprehend this class divide and show the audience that she is a servant...
