Janine Boor Form and structure The form in Road is mainly a contrast between 'comical' and 'tragic.' For example there are many comical elements in characters - Marion and Brian. It's very funny the way they argue on the street but yet at the same time it's extremely tragic. Because of the lack of self respect they both have. They don't keep their personal arguments to themselves, they shout it out to the whole street. Another contrasting scene is that between Helen and the soldier, Helen is trying to seduce him, and we find this funny in the way that she's falling over herself to have him, but because of the same reason we find it tragic. It's the need for attention and how she feels ashamed at the end of the scene that also makes it so tragic. So it's very often in the play that we see comedy and...
