As an actress playing the role of Yerma I would want the audience to be aware that I am a repressed character. The character being shown is not my true character. Just one that religion and marriage has pushed me into. The name Yerma in Spanish means Barren. Immediately, the idea that Yerma cannot conceive is thought of. However, I do not believe that the writer intended this to be the only meaning for barren. Yerma and Juan's relationship is believed to be barren. It is barren because there is no love. Also, Yerma's religion is barren as it forces her to stay in her marriage. Therefore, my intention in this scene is to show Yerma's desperation for a loving husband and a child. The first line in which I show this is when Juan starts to leave saying "See you later" I would quickly stand up from sitting and follow Juan...
