A documentary should tell a good story, whilst developing the audience's knowledge of at least one situation or a character. A documentary should tell the audience about real life, it should give factual information and inform the audience of people and events, to let the audience form a biased opinion, or be persuaded into believing what the documentary is trying to convey to them. According to Michael Rabiger, a documentary must adhere to certain conventions in order to be considered as a proper documentary, it should aim to convey a personal, critical perspective on some aspect of the human condition by showing the audience how other humans behave and being able to learn about their views.
