Logan Roon PC Hardware 11/17/01 What is RAID? Introduction RAID is an acronym which stands for Redundant Array of Inexpensive Disks. What this means is to take many hard drives (which could be between 2 and 32), and set them up in such a way that they act like one extremely powerful drive that could do some special things one drive would never be able to do itself. There are generally 6 types of raid, however only 5 are most commonly used. To best describe RAID I will be using an analogy in which is based in a 'fake' classroom where a professor is lecturing his students. However this professor is very kind and only speaks as fast as the students he is teaching can write. The students decide to develop a system called RALS (Redundant Array of Lazy Students) so that they can get take notes as efficiently as possible. RAID0 - 'Striping' Two students (hard drives)...
