Ways of Detecting Computer Crime There are many different types of computer crime. These are; · Dumpster Diving · Wiretapping · Masquerading · Software piracy · Trap doors · Trojans, viruses, and worms etc. · Data Diddling · Port Scanning Dumpster Diving Dumpster diving, or trashing, is where people search through people's rubbish in order to obtain personal information that could be of use to them. This is a type of security attack. Important information such as passwords and access codes and discarded disks are sought for by hackers in order to crack systems. Electric trashing is easy for hackers due to the way computer systems delete data. All systems allow for ways which you can retrieve deleted data, which means hackers can scavenge data from old computers. Trashing can have disastrous consequences. The old computers from the Department of Justice had information contained on their disks regarding the whereabouts of witnesses in the Federal Witness Protection Program.
