Moving away from the ageing look of Windows 95 and its followers, the system has been completely revolutionised to suit the modern age. It all began in August 1981, when college student Bill Gates produced DOS, from his small company Microsoft. At the time, such an achievement was revolutionary and the system was bought by computer giant IBM. Microsoft grew and grew, providing computers with updated versions of DOS until 1987, when the first Windows OS was created. It provided a completely different interface to DOS, one which boosted looks, style, ease of use and possibilities. Since this Microsoft has developed into the most profitable organisation in the world also updating Windows to eventually reach the magnificent stage of XP....
