Processors vary in their speed and capacity of memory, registers, and data bus. An internal clock synchronizes and controls all the processor's operations. The basic time unit, the clock cycle, is rated in terms of megahertz (millions of cycles per second). Following is a brief description of various Intel processors: 8088 - Has 16-bit registers and an 8-bit data bus and can address up to 1 million bytes of internal memory.
