Introduction For a few weeks in English we have been studying Roland Barthes Filmic Codes. These codes were the enigma code, the semic code, the proairetic code, the symbolic code and the referential code. We assessed the film 'Crouching Tiger Hidden Dragon' based on these codes. My definition on a film is that it is a way of telling a visual story. It contains actors that play and portray their designated character, which happens in a story as well. That experience usually contains an issue or a problem that needs to be resolved. I t is also where characters show their attributes, emotions and desires. There is always a setting and most importantly a plot. There is dialogue and a sometimes a moral in a film. There are descriptions and a beginning, middle, and an end.
